When we upgrade the Voonami Cloud environment, it is also recommended to upgrade the version of VMware Tools that is installed on each of the virtual machines.

Verify the Version

  • The current version we are using on Cloud is 10341
  • If your VM is using open-vm-tools on a Linux system, the current version is 10304
  • You can verify the version by right-clicking the VM and selecting Properties
    - On the General tab you will see the version of VMware Tools installed

Follow these steps to upgrade:

  • Login to your Cloud Portal
  • Select My Cloud > VMs
  • Right-click on the VM you would like to update
  • Select Install VMware Tools
      - This will mount a CD/DVD to this virtual machine

Windows Server OS:

  • Log onto the OS of the virtual machine
  • Launch the setup.exe from the CD/DVD drive
  • Follow the wizard to install the Typical installation of the Tools
    - Reboot the OS if requested
  • Return to the Cloud portal
  • Right-click the VM
  • Select Eject the CD/DVD

Linux Server OS:

  • Log onto the OS of the virtual machine
  • mkdir /tmp/cdrom
  • mount /dev/cdrom /tmp/cdrom
  • cp /tmp/cdrom/VMwareTools-10.0.0-3000743.tar.gz /root
  • mkdir /tmp/vmware-tools
  • tar -xzvf /root/VMwareTools-10.0.0-3000743.tar.gz -C /tmp/vmware-tools
  • cd /tmp/vmware-tools/vmware-tools-distrib
  • perl vmware-install.pl
    • type yes to install this version
    • accept all of the default values (16 of them)
    • It will end with "Enjoy, --the VMware team" without a prompt
    • Return to the Cloud portal
    • Right-click the VM
    • Select Eject the CD/DVD
      • Select the Require Action Alert and answer Yes to disconnect and override the lock
      • The prompt will return in the console
      • If there is still a message in Cloud concerning the CD/DVD, Eject it again.
  • Reboot OS if requested
